Opening Reception: Restorying Our HeartPlaces: Contemporary Pueblo Architecture
05:00 pm - 08:00 pm MDT
Join us for the Grand Opening Presentation and Reception for the exhibition “Restorying Our HeartPlaces: Contemporary Pueblo Architecture,” guest curated by the Indigenous Design + Planning Institute at the University of New Mexico. The evening’s panelist program will be led by Dr. Lynn Paxson and Dr. Ted Jojola (Isleta), who will introduce the exhibition, followed by a presentation with Dr. Cynthia Chavez Lamar (San Felipe) and Duane Blue Spruce (Laguna/Ohkay Owingeh) with a reception afterwards. The roundtable will focus on the significance of the design of Indigenous places with a particular emphasis on Indigenous communities telling their own stories through the places they call home. The speakers will lend insight into how storytelling of place not only expresses and strengthens Indigenous identity, but how it also supports Indigenous resilience while articulating sovereignty. The exhibit will be on view from March 25 through December 7, 2025.
Free event. Refreshments will be served. This program is generously supported by the New Mexico Humanities Council.
