IPCC Family Story Time: Weaving: Part 1

@ Children’s Area of Museum Saturday 02.08, 2025
01:00 pm - 02:00 pm MST

February’s IPCC Family Story Times will feature books and activities related to the traditional winter activity of weaving!

On February 8th, we will be reading The Goat in the Rug by Charles L. Blood (Ponobscot) and Martin Link (Navajo), illustrated by Nancy Winslow Parker. This delightful, true story is about a goat named Geraldine and Glenmae, a Navajo weaver. The book follows the process involved in making a rug from start to finish from Geraldine’s perspective. The reader learns, along with Geraldine, about the care and pride involved in the weaving of a Navajo rug- and about the cooperation between friends.

We will also be reading We Weave by Daniel W. Vandever (Diné), illustrated by Deonoveigh Mitchell (Diné/Naahilii). We Weave is a story about a boy and his grandmother using their creativity to purchase a computer when schools transition to online learning. The story is rooted in resilience and uniquely weaves together the traditional and digital worlds and celebrates the intergenerational strength of family.

Crafts will involve simple weaving with paper. Free for children and adult family member
