Pueblo Book Club: The Zunis: Self Portrayals By The Zuni People
02:00 pm - 04:00 pm MST
This Pueblo Book Club will be offered both online (Zoom) and in person in the Chaco III room at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center at 2pm.
For reasons known and unknown, the public has been fascinated with Pueblo culture—in literature, tourism and even in attending events such as feast days. The phrases “stoic Indian” and “mystic savage” contribute to that interest but, sadly, they also lead to the stereotyping that all Native Americans are the same. What’s missing is public knowledge of who Pueblo people really are and the lack of narrative by, and of, Pueblo people. The Zunis: Self Portrayals is one of the first efforts to take collective ownership of Pueblo people’s narrative—their heritage, their culture and who they are as Zunis.
