Pueblo Book Club: My life in San Juan Pueblo: Stories of Esther Martinez
02:00 pm - 04:00 pm MST
This Book Club will be hosted by Jon Ghahate. Reasoning for Book Selection by Jon Ghahate: Book was chosen as it is a book, the personal story, of a well-known and revered community member
Winter was that time of the year, of long cold starry nights, and through generations, Pueblo families’ huddled around a warm cracking fire, to tell and hear stories. Sharing wisdom and knowledge, and stories with humor and tragedy, were ways people spend those nights, perpetuating the voices of past ancestors. December’s reading, ‘My Life in San Juan Pueblo: Stories of Esther Martinez’ by Esther Martinez, is a way of continuing that community-centered tradition, about the life and contributions of a matriarch of the people of Ohkay Owingeh, formerly referred to as San Juan Pueblo.
