Request for Qualifications to Commission or Purchase a Work of Art for the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center Roundabout Area Deadline EXTENDED: Friday, October 1.

Due to the Albuquerque Community Foundation postponing in-person events for the year, the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center Public Art Piece installation date has been postponed to May 2022. Therefore, we are extending the Request for Qualifications and Call to Artists deadline to Friday, October 1, 2021. Please submit your proposals!

To honor our 40th Anniversary, we are acknowledging our arts and culture roots and initial grantmaking in the 1980s by partnering with the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center (“IPCC”) to commission or purchase a permanent public art piece by a Native American artist and/or artist team from New Mexico. The public art piece will be located near the traffic circle at Menaul Blvd NW and 12th Street NW.

The Art Selection Committee (“Committee”) for the project, led by IPCC staff, includes a member from the Near North Valley Neighborhood Association, an ACF staff member, and a member from the City of Albuquerque Arts Board. The Committee seeks proposals for primary artwork to be placed in the center of the roundabout and should attempt to relate to the themes present in the streetscape and surrounding areas.

The design of the sculpture should be appropriate for the site’s culture and history as a gateway to the North Valley and to the 19 Pueblos. Non-figurative themes and styles are encouraged. Quality of design and craftsmanship are of utmost importance for the site. The Committee will offer a stipend for preliminary design concepts from a set of five finalists. Stipend funds of $500 per selected finalist are available.

All materials should be submitted directly to the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center via email to [email protected] or arrive physically in portable digital format (i.e. on CD or other device) mailed or delivered, to Indian Pueblo Cultural Center offices, Attn: Amy Johnson, Curator of Collections, by Friday, October 1, 2021 at 5:00pm, local time. Late and/or incomplete submissions will not be considered. Mailing address is: 2401 12th Street NW, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87104. Questions may be directed to Amy Johnson, Curator of Collections at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center via email at [email protected].
