Albuquerque, NM – Join the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center (IPCC) in celebrating its 50th anniversary during the month of August. Since its founding on August 28, 1976, IPCC has served as a gathering place where Pueblo Culture is celebrated through creative and cultural experiences and has welcomed visitors from across the nation and the world.
Through exhibitions, educational programs, community events, and support for Native artists and entrepreneurs, IPCC uplifts Pueblo voices – past, present, and future – in meaningful and lasting ways. To celebrate our 50th Anniversary, we invite you to join us during the month of August and throughout the following events:
The Old Road Mural Public Reception and Opening
WHAT: Celebrate the 100th anniversary of Route 66 with a public reception for “The Old Road”—a mural that at once remembers the first major highway traversing the United States and gives emphasis to its impact on Pueblo communities and New Mexico. Artists Warren Montoya (Pueblos of Santa Ana/Santa Clara), Margarita Paz Pedro (Pueblo of Laguna/Mexican American), Keith Scott (Pueblo of Laguna), and XR artist Akilah Martinez (Diné) have created a dynamic mural in the Art Through Struggle Gallery that travels through time. This multi-dimensional installation shows Pueblo people and places along the “Mother Road,” otherwise known as Route 66. This reception is an opportunity to meet the artists and to learn more about the mural! Visitors get free admission when you mention “The Old Road Reception” at the IPCC East or South check-in desks.

WHERE: Art Through Struggle Gallery at the end of the IPCC’s permanent exhibition
Albuquerque Isotopes Native American Heritage Night presented by the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center
WHAT: Sponsored by the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, this evening with the Albuquerque Isotopes highlights local Indigenous culture with authentic cultural performances and an exclusive Pueblo Pottery designed hat for the first 2,500 fans.
WHEN: Saturday, August 8, 2026. Gates open at 5:30 p.m., gametime at 6:35 p.m.
WHERE: Rio Grande Credit Union Field at Isotopes Park
Our Story Continues: Commemorating the Pueblo Revolt
WHAT: The Pueblo Revolt took place on August 10, 1680, where the Pueblo nations of New Mexico had the most successful uprising against colonial intruders by an assembly of Indigenous people who had developed a reputation as a peaceful tribe. This 3-day program is centered on the legacy of the Pueblo Revolt by connecting history with contemporary relevance while empowering youth through themes of resilience and community responsibility. All programs are free to attend.

Panel Discussion examining the aftermath of the Revolt in the Southern region, including the displacement of Pueblos and the history of lands such as Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge.

The Indian Pueblo Cultural Center’s 50th Birthday Celebration
WHAT: The Indian Pueblo Cultural Center is having a special birthday party for when it opened 50 years ago. Enjoy family-friendly activities for all ages including face painting, a photo booth, bingo with prizes, food trucks, Pueblo dances, nearly 50 vendors, and more honoring IPCC’s past, present, and future. This is a free event and includes free admission to the museum with suggested donations.
