Albuquerque, NM — March 4, 2026 — The Indian Pueblo Cultural Center (IPCC) is excited to announce the opening of La Montañita Food Co-op in Avanyu Plaza, located across from the Cultural Center. The new Avanyu Plaza location signifies the relocation of La Montañita’s longtime Rio Grande store, bringing the same trusted team — along with new staff members — into a larger, updated space.

Avanyu Plaza, situated on land owned by the 19 Pueblos of New Mexico, continues to expand its offerings with Pueblo-owned businesses representing the 19 Pueblos, as well as tenants who lease space on the property. La Montañita joins the plaza’s restaurants, hotels, and local shops in creating a convenient and centralized destination for both visitors and Albuquerque locals. “We are honored to join Avanyu Plaza and deepen our partnership with the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center,” said James Esqueda, general manager and chief executive officer of La Montañita Food Co-op. “This location reflects our shared commitment to community, culture and local food systems. We’re proud to grow alongside IPCC during such a meaningful milestone year.”

The opening of La Montañita coincides with IPCC’s 50th anniversary, commemorating a legacy of sharing Pueblo history, art, and culture with the world. The continued transformation of Avanyu Plaza is one example of how IPCC has expanded beyond the original Cultural Center that opened in 1976. In addition to Avanyu Plaza, the campus now includes the Indian Pueblo Entrepreneur Complex. IPCC also offers cultural and educational programs that allow visitors to connect with Pueblo culture and traditions and experience how they continue in present-day New Mexico.

A grand opening celebration is planned for March 12, 2026, featuring a ribbon-cutting ceremony, community remarks and in-store festivities. Additional details will be announced through La Montañita’s website and social media channels.
