This curated selection features titles for readers of all ages and interests, offering meaningful ways to explore, honor, and celebrate Pueblo culture.
Each week, we will spotlight one or two featured titles. The selected books are available to view in the IPCC Library Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. We invite you to stop by, spend time with the collection, and discover your next recommended read.
Kiki’s Journey

School’s out for summer, and for many families this signals time for a road trip. In this tender-hearted children’s picture book, Kiki, a city girl from Los Angeles, returns for the first time since she was a baby to the Taos Pueblo Reservation with her family. With only faint memories of her Pueblo family and life in Taos, Kiki begins a journey of discovery as she reconnects with her heritage and learns how to carry it forward. As she begins to learn more about the Pueblo and her extended family, Kiki finds herself wondering where she belongs.
Like her character Kiki, author Kristy Orona-Ramirez (Taos Pueblo/Tarahumara) grew up in Southern California. Her first journey to Taos Pueblo, and the reassurance that her people would never forget her, inspired her to write about an experience shared by many urban Native youth. In addition to writing, Kristy performs with The Mankillers, an all-female Native American drum group, and works as an educator in California. We encourage you to stop by the IPCC library to take a closer look at this and many other wonderful titles in our collection.
