IPCC Family Story Time

@ IPCC Library and Archives Saturday 08.09, 2025
01:00 pm - 02:00 pm MDT

Family Story Time at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center library is a chance for children and families to gather and share stories and activities related to Native American culture, history, and storytelling traditions.

Join us at 1PM on August 9th at the IPCC Library to read “Shaped By Her Hands: Potter Maria Martinez” by Anna Harber Freeman (Author), Barbara Gonzales (Author), and Aphelandra (Illustrator). After the story, stick around to create your own clay pinch pot to take home with you or read a book in our library!

Maria Povika Martinez learned pottery as a child under the guiding hands of her ko-ōo, her aunt. She grew up to discover a new firing technique that turned her pots black and shiny, and made them—and Maria—famous. This inspiring story of family and creativity illuminates how Maria’s belief in sharing her love of clay brought success and joy from her New Mexico Pueblo to people all across the country.
