Pueblo Baseball Community Gallery
Showing in the South Gallery from August 10 through October 27, 2024
This Pueblo Baseball Community Gallery offers a new addition to the Pueblo Baseball: Stitching Our Community Together exhibition through loaned community contributions. The Pueblo Baseball Community Gallery provides a variety of perspectives in players and coaches’ memorabilia that portrays the legacy of this deeply rooted sport in the Pueblo villages of New Mexico.
The Pueblo Baseball Community Gallery features a variety of objects that convey a sense of team spirit and belonging from baseball jerseys to video recordings. The jerseys exude pride and camaraderie through specific team colors and names that represent the lifelong bonds between players on the Pueblo Baseball teams traveling from north, south, east, and west. The 1991 game footage gives a window to reflect on the many summers of Pueblo Baseball that commence in friendly rivalry year after year.
Game photographs and inscribed baseballs take us back to moments in time where Pueblo Baseball plays and wins are commemorated. For community members, this memorabilia returns those feelings of exhilarating sportsmanship and teamwork and getting through those last rounds of base runs. Players recall the highlights of these games and moments of gathering for a group photograph after that final point is made.
The collaborative, intuitive skills for playing Pueblo Baseball flourish in each younger generation. The legacy of Pueblo Baseball shines on through the community support of each summer’s games. Pueblo Baseball brings the people together to make memories over playing ball, eating a frito pie, and slurping a piccadilly. The cheers during the off-and-running foul balls, celebrated home runs, and honking car horns carry across the field–in a banter that stitches Pueblo communities together under the desert skies.
